The conferences always instil a sense of oomph in me, I come away feeling more confident at making decisions and acting upon them

Guest speaker

  • Prof Sir David Spiegelhalter OBE

Emeritus Professor of Public Understanding of Risk and Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Cambridge

Title: Communicating risks and uncertainties: Is there a trustworthy way to do it?

David is a distinguished statistician and communicator with regular TV and radio appearances. David focuses on the difference between how we think and how we feel about risk.

He is fantastic at diving deep into the topic of risk, breaking down the numbers, the emotion, giving the audience the real way to decide upon how risk can really be calculated. He can put complicated analytical data into context, and showing numbers can influence people to make a decision.

With a background in medical statistics, he is no stranger to the importance of calculated risk. He is delighted to join us in Manchester as he has personal experience with our community - his son Dan died of cancer aged 5 in 1997.
