Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group is delighted to be launching a further round of research funding on behalf of the Little Princess Trust.
The Little Princess Trust is a charity that provides real hair wigs to children and young people. Since their inception in 2006 the charity has helped thousands of children and will continue to provide support for as long as the need is there.
The Little Princess Trust receives a tremendous amount of support which has enabled them to further develop their work and the charity is now in a position to invest in research into childhood cancers. Since the charity's main purpose is dealing with one of the side effects of cancer treatment, the trustees have a particular interest in kinder, less aggressive treatments. CCLG is managing this research programme on behalf of The Little Princess Trust.
Little Princess Trust Pilot Grants
Funding is available to support research into paediatric cancers. Funded projects will improve our understanding of the disease and help improve the outlook for children. Grants of up to £25,000 over a period of up to 12 months are available.
Applications to this funding round should be scientific proposals that study:
- The causes of childhood cancer; or
- Accurate diagnosis of childhood cancer; or
- New approaches to treatment, in particular approaches that may lead to a reduction in short and long-term sequelae of treatment. In terms of long-term effects, the Trust has a particular interest in disabilities and chronic health conditions. Applications focusing on fertility/reproduction and psychosocial aspects are unlikely to be considered for this funding scheme.
Our pilot grants may support stand-alone projects, research that is part of a wider project or trial, or research that is likely to lead to a further, larger grant application to a major funder of research.
Applications will be judged on
- Scientific quality and impact
- Relevance
- Scientific Leadership
- Justification of resources

How research applications are selected
Excellent research governance is at the heart of our research decision making. Our independent Research Advisory Group (RAG) overseas our research grant rounds and follows our Principles of Peer Review Policy. All of our RAG members and external peer reviewers are asked to declare any Conflicts of Interest and adhere to our Grant Review Code of Conduct . Following peer review, the RAG will discuss and rank the applications for funding.
