The SMILE Consortium, led by Professor Marianne Aznar and Dr Shermaine Pan from the Christie Hospital in Manchester and Ms Marinka Hol from the Princes Máxima Centre for Paediatric Oncology in Utrecht and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, is delighted to announce its first open meeting. For several years now, members of this international multidisciplinary Consortium have been undertaking research on the late effects of surgery, radiotherapy and other treatments on the growing face and teeth of children and young people with cancer in the head and neck region.
We now offer the opportunity for all doctors, nurses and allied health professionals involved in cancer treatment and late effects follow up to learn more about the causes of the problems encountered, how they may be minimised, and key aspects in continuing care.
On day one, Tuesday 2 March 2027, there will be a SMILE Education Day, with presentations covering all aspects of dentofacial late effects; followed by a networking dinner for all attending.
On day two, Wednesday 3 March 2027, there will be an opportunity for anyone interested to submit an abstract summarising their own work in this field for an oral presentation or poster.
Registration and abstract submission will open in October, deadline for abstract submission 30 November 2026.
