Grace Kelly Ladybird Project Grant

CCLG is pleased to launch a research funding opportunity in partnership with the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust.

The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust was founded in memory of 4 year old Grace Kelly who passed away in 2014. The vision of the Trust was born from the inspiration that Grace imparted on the people she met. Grace was a compassionate and caring little girl, who looked after others before herself.

CCLG Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust
Project Grant

Deadline for applications: Tuesday 2 April 2019

A project grant of up to £80,000 and up to three years is available for a clearly defined research project addressing a key question in rare non-CNS solid tumours of childhood, including rhabdoid tumours (all types), non-Wilms renal tumours and very rare soft tissue sarcomas. The funded project will improve our understanding of the disease and help improve the outlook for children diagnosed.

The funding for this project has been provided by the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust.

Our project grants may support stand-alone projects, research that is part of a wider project or trial, or research that is likely to lead to a further, larger grant application to a major funder of research.

All areas of research related to rare non-CNS solid tumours of childhood will be considered, but we are particularly interested in studies that will improve our understanding of the disease and lead to improvements in diagnosis, treatment and/or outcome. The funder has a particular interest in

  1. Non-invasive diagnostic/monitoring techniques, i.e. “liquid biopsies”
  2. Research with clear translatable outcomes that is likely to lead to an improvement in treatment

The deadline for applications is 2 April 2019. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. Funding is available to UK and Ireland based research organisations, i.e. universities and hospitals.

How research applications are selected

Excellent research governance is at the heart of our research decision making. Our independent Research Advisory Group (RAG) overseas our research grant rounds and follows our Principles of Peer Review Policy. All of our RAG members and external peer reviewers are asked to declare any Conflicts of Interest and adhere to our Grant Review Code of Conduct . Following peer review, the RAG will discuss and rank the applications for funding. Final approval comes from our Board of Trustees (which may be delegated to our Executive in the case of Special Named Funds and restricted funds).
