Matt Cherry is taking part in the 'Chase the Sun' 207 mile cycle on 17 June, in memory of Isobel to support research into Langerhan's cell histiocytosis.
Matt told us: "I'm taking part in 'Chase the Sun' to raise funds for, and awareness of, the Isobel Parmenter Memorial Fund, to support the efforts of Isobel’s family to fund research into better diagnostic procedures and a much needed cure for a terrible disease called Langerhans cell histiocytosis which took Isobel’s life."
"I have known Isobel’s family for around 30 years and was fortunate enough to have met Isobel a few times even though I live the opposite side of the country to them now. Having a young family of my own, I cannot imagine what it’s like to lose a child, the most precious thing in your life. I have always supported and admired the fundraising efforts Isobel’s family have undertaken since she passed away in October 2014 at only 22 months old."
"After a recent visit by her parents Suzanne and Michael, I felt hugely inspired to do something myself for their Izzy and to show how much I support them. Isobel was such a little fighter for a young little girl and I wanted to set myself a personal challenge to complete. I enjoy the great outdoors and I love cycling so I thought why not combine the two and raise money for such a great cause at the same time."
"Hence, on 17 June 2017, I will endeavour to cycle at sunrise from Sheerness in Kent, to Burnham on Sea in Somerset by sunset. It is a total distance of 207 miles which I will be cycling with the aim to complete it within 17 hours. I have never done anything like this before and I know it’s going to be gruelling but I am determined to do this for Isobel."
We'd like to wish Matt the best of luck for his challenge. If you would like to sponsor Matt in his challenge, visit his Virgin Money Giving page.
