New booklets for CCLG
Most children suffering from cancer will experience problems with eating and drinking at some stage but help is at hand from a new booklet published by CCLG. Helping your child to eat: A Practical Guide for Parents, Carers and Children coping with Cancer aims to give parents and carers some ideas to help children who have a poor appetite and other eating problems.
Will and Sophie have Radiotherapy – A children’s guide to Radiotherapy is aimed at children up to the age of 9. This colourful booklet tells the story of Will who needs radiotherapy to his head and Sophie who is having radiotherapy to her tummy, from their first visit to the radiotherapy department, through to the end of their radiotherapy treatment.

Coming soon: a new CCLG publication on sport and exercise for children and young people with cancer
For most young people sport and exercise is a huge part of daily life, not just for keeping fit but also for self-esteem and achieving goals. A diagnosis of cancer raises all sorts of questions – will I still be able to do sport, whether just for pleasure or at a competitive level? Can I swim with a Hickman line? Do I have to wait until I’m
off treatment? How will I cope with my disabilities? Parents may be unsure just how much to let their child do. In previous issues of Contact we have featured a number of inspirational articles about how young people do manage to continue with their sporting activities, and just what that means in terms of sense of achievement and quality of life. Our intention, hopefully, later this year, is to combine all the questions, and practical advice into one helpful booklet.

Sue Ablett, Contact’s Managing Editor, successfully completed the 2010 London Marathon, thereby achieving a lifetime ambition.
All sponsorship from that run is going to support production of this booklet. If you would like to support this project do visit Sue’s Virgin Money Giving page
